Patrol Division


The Springfield Police Department’s Patrol Division is composed of 4 patrol shifts consisting of 22 sworn Police Officer’s, 5 Corporals and 5 Sergeant’s. The Patrol Division’s primary responsibility is the prevention and deterrence of criminal activity operations and the provision of daily police service to the community. The patrol division is one of the most visible symbols of all city services and considered the foundation on which other police services are delivered. Officers assigned to the Patrol Division provide twenty-four hour patrol of the city and utilize proactive law enforcement to prevent crimes and protect life and property. Officers provide initial response to all calls for service, both routine and emergency; establish a rapport with citizens and businesses; secure crime scenes; investigate traffic crashes; perform initial and follow up investigation of crimes; arrest and transport suspects; testify in court; and perform numerous other activities in support of the community policing philosophy.
