S.W.A.T.

The Springfield Police Department’s SWAT Team consists of specially trained operators, selected from all sections within the police department.  The primary function of the Springfield Police Department’s SWAT Team is to “Save Lives.”  The Springfield Police Department’s SWAT Team responds to a variety of calls that include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • High risk warrant service
  • Hostage Situations
  • Barricaded subjects
  • Special circumstances as directed by the Chief of Police

The Springfield Police Department SWAT Team (Special Weapons and Tactics) recognizes that the presence of the highly trained, highly skilled police SWAT Team has been shown to substantially reduce the risk of injury, of loss of life to citizens, police officers and suspects.  It is the intent of the Springfield Police Department’s SWAT Team to provide a highly trained and skilled SWAT Team as a resource for the Springfield Police Department in the handling of high risk situations.
