The City of Springfield is excited to announce the opening of a brand-new playground at Garner Street Park, offering families a fun and inclusive space to enjoy the outdoors.

The new playground features a range of innovative accessibility features, ensuring children of all abilities can play together. That includes wheelchair accessible artificial turf, swing, and glider; sensory boards, and interactive musical play panels. Other exciting features include multiple slides, a variety of swings, climbing structure, shade sails, and more.

A standout element of the new design is a replica of Springfield's historic clock tower, adding distinct local flair and a sense of heritage to the park.  A new bathroom facility is also open adjacent to the playground.

“This is a proud moment for our city as we open this beautiful new playground thoughtfully designed with accessibility considered in every detail,” said parks and recreation Director Terry Martin. “We’ve built a space where every child and family can feel welcome. The replica of Springfield’s historic clock tower also adds a special touch and honors our city’s history. We can’t wait for our community to start creating new memories at the new and improved Garner Street Park.”

This is Springfield’s second accessible playground, following the 2019 playground installation at Martin Luther King Jr. Park. The project represents a significant step forward in the city’s ongoing efforts to improve quality of life in Springfield. The Springfield parks and recreation department is committed to ensuring the community has access to exceptional recreational facilities for years to come.

New pickleball courts and resurfaced tennis courts also recently opened at Garner Street Park. Prior additions to the park also include the Central Bark Dog Park and skate park.
