Jerry Shannon began his role as Planner in December 2025. His background and experience uniquely position him to be an asset to zoning and planning by bringing a strong foundation in operations, safety, coordination, and public service to the Community Planning and Development Department. With over seven years in the Robertson County Schools Transportation Department serving in roles ranging from Dispatcher and Routing Coordinator to Operations/Safety Manager, Jerry has extensive experience analyzing routes, land use impacts, traffic flow, access management, and operational efficiency which are core considerations in zoning and site plan review. His deep familiarity with safety procedures, emergency planning, and risk management translates directly to evaluating development proposals for pedestrian safety, school access, traffic circulation, visibility, and compliance with city standards. Jerry’s advanced training through STN, TAPT, SESPTC, and RTM conferences, along with instructor certifications in First Aid/CPR/AED, Smith System Driver Training, and Crisis Prevention Intervention, strengthens his ability to assess developments through a safety-first lens while working collaboratively with applicants and the public. His leadership as a Captain in the Civil Air Patrol and experience with FEMA coursework, operational risk management, and search-and-rescue missions further enhance his capacity for critical decision-making, regulatory compliance, and coordination with multiple agencies/departments which are skills that are essential for zoning enforcement, conditional use reviews, and long-range planning. As a Robertson County native with long-standing community relationships, Jerry brings a customer-service-oriented approach to zoning and planning, helping residents and developers understand regulations clearly while maintaining consistency and fairness in enforcement. His knowledge of local infrastructure and growth patterns allows him to proactively identify potential conflicts and recommend practical, safety-focused solutions that support responsible development. Through this blend of technical expertise, leadership, and community engagement, Jerry will contribute to effective zoning administration, thoughtful planning decisions, and the continued growth and safety of the community.
