The Springfield Police Department’s SPEAR Team consists of specially trained operators, selected from all sections within the police department. The primary function of the Springfield Police Department’s SPEAR Team is to “Save Lives.” The Springfield Police Department’s SPEAR Team responds to a variety of calls that include, but are not limited to, the following:
- High risk warrant service
- Hostage Situations
- Barricaded subjects
- Special circumstances as directed by the Chief of Police
The Springfield Police Department SPEAR Team recognizes that the presence of the highly trained, highly skilled police SPEAR Team has been shown to substantially reduce the risk of injury, of loss of life to citizens, police officers and suspects. It is the intent of the Springfield Police Department’s SPEAR Team to provide a highly trained and skilled SPEAR Team as a resource for the Springfield Police Department in the handling of high risk situations.
