Request Inspection

To request an inspection contact the Community Development & Planning Department at (615) 382-2200.  A city inspector will inspect the property within 3 business days. A tag will be left on the property informing whether the property passed or failed.

HVAC Inspections

The City of Springfield requires a rough-in and final inspection.  Contact the Community Development & Planning Department at (615) 382-2200.

Gas Inspections

The City of Springfield requires that a pipe house with proper pipe size including a stub sticking out of the house at the meter. After completion of installation, the contractor will be required to air test the line at a minimum of 30 PSI for at least 24 hours. While the pipe is under pressure test you may call city hall to request a codes enforcer to inspect the installation of the gas pipe line. If the pipe passes inspection, an order will be placed to have a customer service representative install the gas meter and establish service.

New Construction Building Permit

The City of Springfield requires a footing, framing, and final inspection on all new construction. Contact the Community Development & Planning Department at (615) 382-2200 to schedule these inspections.

  • Prior to the framing inspection property must have passed rough in plumbing and electrical inspections.
  • Prior to the final inspection property must have passed final plumbing and electrical inspections.

No building or structure can be used or occupied, and no change in the existing property classification of a building or structure or portion thereof shall be made until the building official has issued a certificate of occupancy.
